WHICH VACCINES ADULTS NEED TO TAKE

     Essential Adult Vaccines Checklist

    • Flu (Influenza): Annual shot, essential for all adults, particularly before monsoon/winter seasons.
    • Tdap or Td (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis): Booster required every 10 years. Tdap is specifically recommended for pregnant women during the third trimester.
    • COVID-19: Primary series and updated boosters as recommended.
    • Shingles (Shingrix): Two doses recommended for adults aged 50 and older.
    • Pneumococcal (PCV/PPSV23): Recommended for adults aged 65 and older, or younger adults with high-risk conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes).
    • HPV (Human Papillomavirus): Recommended for adults up to age 26, but may be given to adults aged 27–45 based on shared clinical decision-making.
    • Hepatitis B: Recommended for adults who haven't been vaccinated, particularly those with diabetes or occupational risks.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): For adults born after 1956 who lack evidence of immunity.
    • Varicella (Chickenpox): For adults who never had the disease or were not vaccinated.
    • RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus): Recommended for adults 75 and older, and those 50-74 with certain high-risk health conditions.

    WOMEN'S HEALTH & VACCINES

     Key Vaccinations for Women

    • HPV Vaccine: Recommended for women aged 9 to 46 to prevent cervical cancer, ideally administered around age 9-14, but approved up to age 46.
    • Tdap Vaccine: Crucial during each pregnancy, specifically between 27 and 36 weeks, to protect the mother and provide passive immunity to the newborn against pertussis (whooping cough).
    • Influenza (Flu) Vaccine: Strongly recommended for all pregnant women to reduce the risk of severe illness, particularly during flu season.
    • COVID-19 Vaccine: Recommended for pregnant and postpartum women, according to HHS.gov.

    Vaccination During Pregnancy

    • Safe Vaccines: Inactivated vaccines (e.g., Tdap, flu) are safe and recommended.
    • Contraindicated Vaccines: Live vaccines, such as MMR (Measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella (chickenpox), should be avoided during pregnancy.
    • Postpartum: Women who have not been vaccinated, or who have not immunity, should receive necessary vaccines (like MMR or Varicella) before leaving the hospital.
